The Novel Restaurant in Brooklyn Combines Vinyl, Books, and Food

In a time when independent restaurants and local bookstores are in trouble, the newly opened Novel Kitchen checks all the boxes. This convivial new Atlantic Avenue spot, currently in soft open phase, combines all of my favorite things—books, records, and food. That means you can stop by for a morning coffee and bacon, egg and cheese, while you start reading your new favorite book, or have a leisurely lunch with friends while browsing best sellers, and the tweens and teens can hang out on Tik Tok and marvel over the world of vinyl. What could be better?

What I love about Novel is that it's a place that not only invites community but creates community. Even better, it comes to us from a beloved Brooklyn family Ali and Akram Nasir who have lived in the neighborhood for 43 years and own the lovely and delicious Yemen Cafe. The menu is pretty simple easy American fare — the kind you want to eat every day. Eggs, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, hummus, grilled cheese, burgers, chicken and waffles, and oversized salads made with halloumi and such. See you there!
