Bread is the Answer.

You're home all the time. And you're baking bread. I know. Sourdough, challah, whole grain, rustic country loaves, all of it. Good for you. Keep it up. You may need supplies? Here are some resources to help.

Borough Provisions

Founded by NYC's Bien Cuit and Joe Coffee, Borough Provisions is a great resource for the local community, providing free contactless delivery of curated grocery items, in addition to their best-selling dark brown loaves, pastries, and coffee, to customers in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

After launching an assortment of new products including Saxelby Cheese, D'Artagnan meats, Monfefo ginger shots, and Pilot kombucha in the last few weeks, Borough Provisions is expanding its offerings to address the needs of a growing subset of customers: home bakers.

Through its partnerships with Farmer Ground, Maine Grains, and La Milanaise, Borough Provisions is now able to offer a variety of flours, in addition to instant yeast and Bien Cuit's home-grown sourdough starter, direct to consumers. Whether you're baking cookies, quick-breads, or a slow-fermented sourdough loaf, customers can find the necessary ingredients on Borough Provisions.

The store's expanded range of supplies now includes:

  • Farmer Ground All-Purpose Flour

  • Farmer Ground Whole Wheat Bread Flour

  • Farmer Ground Buckwheat Flour

  • Maine Grains Rolled Oats

  • La Milanaise Organic Whole Rye Flour

  • SAF Instant Yeast

  • Bien Cuit Sourdough Starter

  • Bien Cuit Sourdough Starter Kit (including starter, flour, a proofing basket, a bread-making cloth, a plastic dough scraper, and a metal bench scraper)

This selection will continue to grow as Borough Provisions is working on adding even more products in the coming weeks.

Place your order through the Borough Provisions website, and orders will be delivered every day between 7am-1pm to addresses in Manhattan and most of Brooklyn. Delivery is free, however, there is a $60 minimum and a 4-day lead time. Contactless pick up is also available at Bien Cuit's Smith Street and Franklin Avenue locations during regular store hours, from 9 am - 5 pm daily.

Le Marais

The lovely folks at Le Marais in San Francisco have teamed up with TOCK to offer take-home Bread Kits and bake-at-home croissant kits. Every bread kit comes with a container of founding baker Patrick Ascaso’s beloved levain starter, two pounds of Giusto’s organic bread flour, a pound of Giusto’s organic whole wheat flour, four ounces of professional dry gold yeast, and recipes. Bread Kits are available for pick up at the Chestnut Street store. Order here.

Le Marais is also offering online ordering and nationwide delivery of their Bake-at-Home Pastry Sampler that includes a variety of croissants, kouign-amann, pain aux raisins, pain chocolat, and more.

Williams Sonoma is carrying a line of Le Marais new bake at home mixes—brownies, cookies, cakes and more—as well as care packages for shipment nationwide.

Featherstone Foods:

Featherstone is a bread wholesaler that works with bakeries like Amy’s, Grandaisy, and Orwashers to deliver their goods to chefs and grocers throughout the city. The supplier just launched a weekly bread basket subscription that is available for home delivery in Manhattan, some areas of Brooklyn, Westchester, the Hamptons, and Hoboken.

Need a primer on how to bake bread at home (a really good activity to do with kids, in case you find any of those running around your house). Check out this one from our friends at The Kitchn.

Happy baking!
